Britain should tell Vladimir Putin that he is not welcome at the London Olympics unless Russia makes meaningful efforts to improve its human rights record, MPs will say.
In a move likely to infuriate the Kremlin, Labour`s former Europe minister Denis MacShane will make a parliamentary call for the government to make it clear that Putin is not wanted at the Games.
Parliament will also hear calls for the UK to impose visa bans on Russian officials implicated in the death of the lawyer Sergei Magnitsky, who died in prison two years ago.
MacShane said his move was solely directed at Putin and not at Russia`s Olympic sportsmen and women, who would be warmly welcomed.
During the debates held in the House of Commons, British MP also slammed British Prime Minister and the Foreign Secretary for abstaining to express tough position towards Russia in most cases.
Moscow-based radio station Echo Moskvy conducted social survey regarding the request of the British MP. When questioned if the spectators though that Putin should arrive in London, 82% answered no and only 15 % answered yes.
